Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at all of the past five race weekends.
The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the closing stages of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the championship lead from his teammate by one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, outpaced the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout scheduled for the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in realistic title contention, trailing 36 points behind behind Norris, ended up in 17th place as his team followed a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to have an incident, though minor, when he lost control at corner four soon after starting.
Tsunoda lost control over the exit kerbs before spinning across the gravel trap, and was fortunate to get away with just a light touch of the fence.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the very end of the practice, turning around through the fast downhill Mergulho turn leading to the final corner on to the main straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in P19, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber third fastest, 0.619 seconds behind Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
